Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Reportedly Name Daugther North West: 15 Other Celebrities who Turned Everyday Words into Weird Baby Names
Kim Kardashain and Kanye West have reportedly named their child North West, according to TMZ, who have apparently seen the birth certificate. Other sources say the couple will call the new baby girl Nori for short.
Though names such as Kaidance Donda West were circulating the web, it seems as though the reality TV star and her rapper boyfriend went for the bizarre baby name, keeping in what seems like a celebrity tradition.
What's different about North, however, is that the name is better known as an everyday word than as a person's name. Kimye aren't the first celebrities to take an average word and give it to their baby for a name.
Here's a list of 15 other celebrities who have taken normal words and turned them into names for their babies:
1. Jenna Elfman: Story
A word better known for the thing you read to your child as they go to sleep, the Dharma and Greg actress and her husband Bodhi Elfman named their first son Story Elias in 2007.
2. Rachel Griffiths: Banjo
The Six Feet Under actress named her son Banjo Patrick after giving birth in November 2003. The traditional folk instrument as a name perhaps implies that the baby will have music in his blood.
3. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban: Sunday Rose
Sunday Rose is a rather cute name for a baby girl, which is likely why Kidman and her country singer husband decided to name their daughter such in 2008. That doesn't stop the name from being a bit bizarre: Sunday is better known as the last day of the week.
4. Alanis Morrissette: Ever Imre
The "You Oughta Know" singer donned her Christmas Day 2010 baby Ever Imre. Much like North, Ever is better known as a word used in EVERyday speech. See? It's just EVERywhere.
5. Jamie Oliver: Petal
Though his daughter's full name is the quirky, odd Petal Blossom Rainbow, the celebrity chef decided to name his third daughter after the flower part in 2009. In a common theme, his other daughters are named Daisy and Poppy. Oliver must have forgotten about full flowers by the time baby number three came around.
6. Jason Lee: Pilot Inspektor
Best known as one of the most bizarre celebrity names, the My Name is Earl actor gave his son the first name of Pilot, which is just a job instead of a name.
7. Colin Meloy: Milo Cannonball
Though Cannonball is the Decemberists member's son's middle name, that doesn't make it any less medieval or bizarre (albeit a little badass). Cannonballs are most known for being an old school thing of war, not something for a bouncing baby boy.
8. Sylvester Stallone: Sage Moonblood
Perhaps Sly Stallone can get away with this one: a plant for a first name, Moonblood for a second name. Though it's unclear what exactly moon blood is, it counts for combining two everyday objects into one name. Congrats!
9. Forest Whitaker: Ocean
The wide vast open water apparently made a fitting name for Whitaker's son. The Last King of Scotland actor is fond of turning typical words into names. His daughters are named Sonnet and True.
10. Robert Rodriguez: Rocket
This child will be flying off into the sky! The lunar name is also a famous weird celebrity choice. The Sin City director also has children named Racer and Rogue, in keeping with the R-word theme.
11. Shannon Sossamon: Audio Science
The generic word for sounds one hears was apparently the perfect name for the actress' son, who was born in 2003.
12. Penn Jillette: Moxie Crimefighter
Yet another famous weird celebrity baby name, the comedian and his wife chose a word meaning "the ability to face difficulty with spirit and courage" for their daughter. Middle name aside, the words are better known as descriptors than names.
13. Frank Zappa: Moon Unit
Nobody is sure exactly what a Moon Unit is, but Zappa decided to name his child these words back in 1967. Little Moon went on to be famous for her turn in her father's song "Valley Girl."
And most similar to Kimye, whose daughter's first name plays off her surname:
14. Rob Morrow: Tu Morrow
15. Gwenyth Paltrow & Chris Martin: Apple Martin
