Jay-Z 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' UPDATE: Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' Lyrics to be Sampled on New Album 2013?
In an interview with the Huffington Post earlier this week, "America's Sweetheart" Courtney Love let a small detail about Jay-Z's new 2013 album Magna Carta Holy Grail slip.
"I'm letting Jay-Z use lyrics," said Love. "Francis [Bean Cobain, her daughter] would freak. Jay-Z's huge and we're friends. I mean we're not besties or anything."
According to Love, Hova used the lyrics initially without asking "which is kind of nervy but the business side has been taken care of so it's fine."
Love owns the Nirvana catalog. She inherited the rights following the death of husband/Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in April 1994.
This isn't the first time the lead singer of riot grrrl group Hole and Jay-Z have become intertwined. Love has been known to cover Hova'ss mega-hit "99 Problems," most recently doing so at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Watch her spin on the rap song here:
Jay-Z's recently released twelfth studio album will be released July 4. Though little is known about the album, it has been revealed that he worked with producers Rick Rubin and Timbaland.
Video promos released by Hova and Samsung have previews some of the sound of the album. "That ain't supposed to work, not against this live sound and lush instrumentation," Jay-Z said in the first "Inside Magna Carta Holy Grail" video.
Yesterday (June 21), Jay-Z released another sample promo of the upcoming album. "4 More" shows another beat being made, proving that the sound of Magna Carta will be just as epic as his announcement.
