Blues singer Bobby "Blue" Bland died yesterday at the age of 83, according to his son.

CNN reports that Ronn Bland said that his father passed away from natural causes in Germantown, Tennesse. "He was in my arms. But I'm not going to lie. I could have used at least 20 more years," said Rodd.

"He never b*tched about not getting his due," he said. "When I took him to Beale St. for ribs and catfish, fans would come up to him. He was always courteous, polite and kind. And humble. That's what I admired."

Bland was born Jan. 27, 1930, in Rosemark, Tennessee. He moved to Memphis and then began making music in the 1950s as an original member of the Beale Streeters, which included the likes of B.B. King and Junior Parker.

After a stint in the United States Army paused his climb to success, Bland began to tour and perform as a solo artist. He released 28 studio albums over the course of his career, most recently in 2003 with Blues at Midnight.

Arguably, his biggest hit was "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City." The song found new life in 2001 when Kanye West sampled the track for Jay-Z's hit album The Blueprint.

The Allman Brothers and Whitesnake have also covered the R&B song.

Bland achieved great honors in his life. He was inducted in the Blues Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He also received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
