The Pixies: 'Where Is My Mind' Band Releases First New Music Since 2004's 'Bam Thwok,' New Album Coming in 2013? [VIDEO]
Seminal alternative rock band The Pixies has released its first new recorded music since 2004. On Thursday the band posted a full music video for new song (and possibly new single?) "Bagboy."
The group doesn't make a visual appearance during the video, but vocalist Black Francis makes himself heard through his typical talk-singing style (although there's some call-and-response happening as well). The video features a teenage male, who may be the titular bagboy, laying waste to a suburban home while the presumed owner is taped-up in bed. The protagonist shoots off fireworks, smashes plates and furnishings, and bathes in a tub full of milk and Fruit Loops.
You can watch the video below.
An interesting element not addressed by the band is the female vocals during the hook (repeating "bagboy" after Black Francis says it). In all of the band's other singles, the female vocals have been provided by bassist Kim Deal. Deal announced two weeks ago that she was leaving the band and the group announced the amicable split on its website. There's no word on who recorded vocals and bass for "Bagboy," but unless the track was thrown together in the previous two weeks, it's safe to assume that Deal is the voice on the single. It sounds like her at any rate.
The song feeds rumors that an entire new album might be coming along soon. The band hasn't released a new album since "Trompe le Monde" in 1991. However the band has released individual songs for download before. The Pixies released single "Bam Thwok" as a one-off for free download in 2004. The band first broke up in 1993 but reformed in 2004, and has remained together since, with the exception of Deal's recent leaving. Deal is still a member of The Breeders, another successful alternative band that she founded.
