Lady Gaga Celebrates Equal Rights at Gay Pride Event With Song & Speech [VIDEO]: First Appearance Since Surgery Canceling 'Born This Way Ball' Tour

Pop star Lady Gaga returned to the public eye in honor of the equal rights triumphs for the LBGT community this week. The "Poker Face" singer made her first official appearance since canceling the Born This Way Ball and also undergoing hip surgery back in February of 2013. Her first event back in the public was at New York's Gay Pride kick-off rally at Pier 26 on Friday night, where she gave a speech and even sang a song!

This event had plenty to celebrate after this week's Supreme Court decision that struck down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and its rejection of California's Proposition 8. The latter allows same-sex marriage to resume in the stat of California.

After the SCOTUS decision, Lady Gaga went onto her avidly used Twitter account to post the following message:

"We stand tall today.#DomaStruckDown So many fought for so long. Be proud, the prejudice are now the minority."

At the Gay Pride event on Friday, she gave a moving speech to New York's LGBT community.

"We are not a niche. We are part, a big giant part of humanity. It's time for us to be mainstream," she said to the celebratory crowd. She then led everyone in some rally chants. "I demand the rights! To safe streets!" she said with the audience shouting back at her, "Enough is enough, enough is enough."

Her speech closed with an updated a cappella version of the national anthem. She changed the lyrics for the appropriate occasion: "Oh say, does our star-spangled flag of pride yet wave."
