Once in a while, a star will break through the crowd and enter the spotlight on the stage of fame. When they do, it is difficult to remain the same person. Fame can change people, morph them into something they swore they would never be. But, sometimes people can make it through the pressure without being crushed. In fact, Codie Prevost has been able to take the pressure of fame and use it to help others. His journey is as humble as his personality.

Codie Prevost is a country music sensation. He has been nominated for plenty of awards, which showcases his ability as an entertainer.  MSTARS has conducted an exclusive interview with the artist. So without further interruption, let's get to know upcoming star, Codie Prevost.

Born of a small farming community in Saskatchewan, Codie Prevost was deluged into the country scene from the beginning. His farming background helped him develop as a musician from a young age.

"When I was 14 I started playing the guitar," said Prevost. "From there I started entering talent contests."

When he says "started playing the guitar," he means he taught himself how to play the instrument. Only two years later at age 16, he began to write his own songs. It did not take long for someone to realize how talented this kid was.

"I met my manager after I graduated from high school," explained Prevost. "Then I recorded my debut CD 'The Road Ahead' in Nashville. I started releasing singles to radio and now I'm working on album number four."

Artists are always trying to express themselves through whichever medium they decide to use. Picasso chose to express himself through his paintings, and Prevost is doing so through music. What motivates artists is a hard thing to evaluate. Whether they are trying to achieve fame, fortune, or anything else is unclear. This talented man says he uses his artistic expression to help whomever he can.

"For me it's about finding a way to use the gifts you have been given and trying to help others with those gifts," said Prevost. "I perform at various fundraising events to try and give back. It's nice to know that I can somehow make a difference with my music. I've been [performing] full time for four years and every day I am thankful to have been blessed with a career that I love."

Since his beginnings, the artist has undergone some pretty amazing moments in his career. He has been nominated for the Canadian Country Music Association's "Rising Star" award for two years running.

"As an indie artist that's something I'm very proud of accomplishing." Prevost said proudly. "Another highlight was when my hometown of Archerwill, Saskatchewan placed two signs on either side of town that read 'Home Of Country Recording Artist Codie Prevost'. The unveiling was a special day. It means the world to me knowing I have their support."

Speaking of special days, Prevost was married this summer in June of 2013.

While Prevost has had a lot of success and wonderful things happen during his career, he admits there are parts that can be quite difficult. It isn't easy being busy.

"You have to manage your time well, to get the business side done as well as taking the time to practice and work on your craft, because that is the number one thing that will get you to where you want to go."

Prevost explained that being a country music star is just like anything else. The only way to ever be successful is through hard work and practice. Traits any farm boy can relate to.

Recording artists need to take a vacation once in a while. A relaxing day for country boys can be a bit stereotypical, Prevost is no exception.

"My favorite thing to do when I am not on the road or recording is fishing!" Prevost exclaimed. "I love getting out on the boat in the summer or if it's winter out on the ice. It's nice and relaxing. So many thoughts and song ideas have come from when I've been out fishing."

Getting out on the lake and fishing is one way to generate ideas for songs. Just like great idea's come to us when we are in the shower, or while gardening, or any other activity that takes the mind off the worries of the world. Prevost says life events are another major inspiration for him.

"Every day we have experiences or see situations that affect us. You just have to make yourself aware and the songs will come out of them." Prevost explained. "It could be the music I am listening to that day or maybe a movie or TV show I watched. There is a song waiting in every moment, it just has to be recognized."

Artists have ways in which they are able to help out the community and the world. Some will donate different items to auctions to raise money for foundations which in turn, help people in different ways. Prevost would like to cut out the middle portion.

When we asked him what his dream was for his career, he did not say he wanted his name on a plaque somewhere, he did not say he wanted to win awards; he did not say he wanted to create a number one song. His answer was different.

"I've been planning to start a foundation. It's important for me to give back to people who need a helping hand." explained Prevost. "There's no better feeling than being on stage, so if through performing and sharing my music I can make a difference in someone's life by giving back that's what I want to be able to do with my music."
