Jon Bon Jovi continued both his goodwill toward and his popularity in his home state of New Jersey when he returned to his hometown to announce a $1 million donation to the New Jersey Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.

Bon Jovi made the announcement in Sayreville, a town on the coast of New Jersey at the state's north tip, just south of Staten Island. Governor Chris Christie and his wife, Mary Pat Christie, were also present to accept the donation. Mary Pat is at the head of the Sandy Relief organization. Bon Jovi was accompanied by his own wife, Dorothea, as well as the rest of his band.

"My being here is not political, it's emotional," Bon Jovi said. "I grew up here. I went to school here. I met my wife here." The rock star recalled growing up in the town and playing shows at Borough Hall, the building at which the ceremony took place. Bon Jovi said he referred to it as "the big time" when he was young.

Bon Jovi has been active in bringing about awareness and fundraising for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, and not only in his home state. In November, he played alongside other artists including Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera and Billy Joel during the "Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together" concert, which raised nearly $23 million. A month later he also took part in the "12-12-12" show, which featured other musicians such as Paul McCartney, The Who, Kanye West and plenty more.

The appearance in Sayreville unfortunately did not involve any music from the band.
