Robin Thicke 'Blurred Lines': Singer Strikes Back Against 'Rape-y' Allegations, Says No 1 Single Is About Empowerment

Robin Thicke's song 'Blurred Lines' has been insanely succesful, topping charts consistently even as it's lyrical content and NSFW music video were accused of being "rape-y." Thicke claimed in an interview with BBC that his song is the exact opposite, and is actually about empowerment.

"I can't dignify that with a response," Thicke said. "That's ridiculous ... For me, it was about blurring the lines between men and women, and how much we're the same. My wife is as strong as I am, if not smarter and stronger. And she's an animal too, and she doesn't need a man to define her. The song is really about women are everything that a man is, and can do anything a man can do."  

It's likely that Thicke was responding to this incredibly negative Daily Beast article:

"The subject [of the song] itself is enough to make some female music fans uncomfortable. The song is about how a girl wants crazy wild sex but doesn't say it - positing that age-old problem where men think no means yes into a catchy, hummable song."
