Veronica Mars Movie: Leighton Meester Not Appearing in Kickstarter Film, Creator Rob Thomas Recasts Carrie Bishop with Andrea Estella
The cast of the Kickstarter-funded Veronica Mars movie continues to come into focus as creator Rob Thomas announced Sunday that he had to recast an important role.
Leighton Meester of "Gossip Girl" fame portrayed Carrie Bishop, the queen bee of the 09ers, during the show's original run. Thomas wanted to bring her back for the movie, but unfortunately circumstances would not allow it.
"Sadly, [she] was doing a different movie during the same time frame on the wrong coast. In the end, she was unavailable," Thomas told those who supported the movie through Kickstarter on Sunday, according to TVLine.
But another performer now has a chance to step into Meester's shoes. Thomas said that ""we needed a performer who could sing in this important role. [So I] decided to cast someone from a band I already wanted in the movie."
That band is one of Thomas' favorites, Twin Sister, and the actress is lead singer Andrea Estella.
Estella released a statement and said she was not a fan of "Veronica Mars," but she watched the pilot episode presumably once she got the part.
"It's the exact kind of show I would get obsessed with...It's been a bit of dream to be in a movie, especially being a messed up rock princess. How could I say no? I think the VM fans are going to be very happy!"
