Paul McCartney Invites Former Nirvana Members Dave Grohl and Krist Novolesic Onstage in Seattle For Beatles Covers Set [VIDEO]

Paul McCartney brought out some local guests when he played the first concert in the history of Seattle's Safeco Field on Friday night. The remaining members of grunge icon Nirvana - Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, as well as touring guitarist Pat Smear - joined McCartney on stage for his encore.

The trio joined McCartney to help him play a number of songs from his time with The Beatles. Included in the six-song closing segment were "Get Back," "Long Tall Sally," "Helter Skelter," "Golden Slumbers," "Carry That Weight" and "The End."

Grohl played guitar as does with the Foo Fighters (he played drums in Nirvana), rocking out as he is wont to do. Novoselic played bass as he did in his most famous band. He may have been outshined by McCartney, as the former Beatles bassist stood front and center with his classic Höfner violin bass, but the hometown crowd still appreciated Novoselic's presence. Some may have been disappointed (and most purist fans relieved) that the ensemble didn't tackle any Nirvana covers. Check out the performance of "Helter Skelter" below.

McCartney, Grohl and Novoselic first met in late 2012 when they recorded original song "Cut Me Some Slack" for Grohl's documentary "Sound City." The trio made the most headlines in a concert full of headliners when they were announced to be playing together at Madison Square Garden as part of the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy Benefit concert. Many rumors flew about the possibility that the group would play Nirvana covers, but in the end they only played "Cut Me Some Slack." Smear joined the group to play the song on "Saturday Night Live" a few days later.
