MGMT Reveal Photographic Album Artwork for Upcoming Self-Titled Record: 'MGMT' Release Date Set for September 17 [PHOTO]
Psychedelic indie rockers MGMT have unveiled the new album artwork for their upcoming self-titled third studio album. Today on their official website, whoismgmt.com, the “Kids” band showed a series of gifs that contained parts of their new album cover.
A fan put the pieces together to reveal the entire picture. Band members Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser are in front of a hair salon/clothing consignment shop. VanWyngarden stands, looking into the sun while Goldwasser sits behind a bird cage also looking toward the sun, but his eyes are nice and protected in from a pair of sunglasses.
The cover is markedly different from Oracular Spectacular and Congratulations, which featured trippy images to go along with MGMT’s psychedelic sound. The cover for MGMT is featured above.
MGMT released the audio for one of the album’s tracks, “Alien Days,” in April. Featuring a spacy synth backbeat, steady drumbeat and acoustic guitar, the song is halfway between the accessibility of Oracular Spectacular and Congratulations, surely where their label Columbia wants them.
MGMT will be released on Sept. 17.
