Fiona Apple - 'Hot Knife' Official Music Video: Songstress Reunites with Ex-Boyfriend Paul Thomas Anderson for 'Idler Wheel' Track
Fiona Apple's incredible album The Idler Wheel... came out in 2012, but today we are treated to a music video for the track "Hot Knife." A simple song - complete with brief piano riffs but layered with vocal rounds and harmonies all over a timpani drum - Apple enlisted her former boyfriend to make the music video for the track. Director Paul Thomas Anderson and Apple dated for a few years starting in the late 1990s when they were both at the height of their careers. Anderson's style is definitely felt throughout the video, and fans are happy the two stayed so close.
Last year, Apple opened up to V Magazine about her relationships with her ex-boyfriends. Here is a short excerpt from the article, starting with a quote from Fiona:
"'I have this weird thing where I'm friends with my ex-boyfriends, and I really care about them. I care about their lives with their girlfriends. I feel like maybe an annoying mother or something.' Among these exes are illusionist David Blaine, in whose office/apartment Apple crashes when in New York, filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, who started to make a video for Apple's new song 'Hot Knife' before having to work on a movie, and most notably writer Jonathan Ames, the subject of one of the album's sweeter tracks, 'Jonathan.'"
As this article explained, Anderson and Apple started work on this most recent music video but were sidetracked by the filmmaker's responsibilities to his movie The Master. Luckily he returned to the music video and we can enjoy it today!
