Lonely Island, The Roots, Jimmy Fallon - 'YOLO' LIVE [VIDEO]: 'Late Night' Host Joins Andy Samberg & Crew for 'Wack Album' Hit Performance
The Lonely Island Crew (Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer) stopped by "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" last night and preformed their hits song "YOLO" off of their recent album The Wack Album. This single was an earlier release in anticipation for The Wack Album and it became an immediate hit. The comical take of "You Only Live Once" turned into a cautionary song was pretty great in general, and then the music video for it made it even better. So it might seem hard to top, right? Well with some help from Fallon and the Roots, it got even better!
We all know how the lyrics are just the complete opposite of what the slang term "YOLO" actually means, so when the Lonely Island, the Roots and Jimmy Fallon acted out some of the words it definitely made it that much more entertaining. Even some Fallon sketch actors came out for some chastity belt, falling down stairs and piranha sauna bits.
The album version of "YOLO" features Adam Levine singing the choruses with Kendrick Lamar having a rap verse towards the end of the song. Fallon replaced Levine and The Roots' Black Thought took on Lamar's rap, verbatim by the way.
To be honest, this live version was incredibly impressive for many reasons, but in terms of sounding like a record-quality take on the song they nailed it.
