Now that we are in the eighth and final season of Showtime's hit series "Dexter," rumors about a spinoff have been making the rounds. Of course, announcing a spinoff series would probably spoil who makes it out alive in the final episodes of the show, so producers and Showtime have been keeping quiet about these rumors. That is, until now.

"Dexter" showrunner Scott Buck has just signed a two-year deal with Showtime, leading many to believe that the rumors about the spinoff series are true.

"We made the deal to keep him in the family," Showtime's entertainment president David Nevins said.

When asked about the spinoff rumors and if such a project was still in the works, Nevins replied, "Of course. We just signed a deal with Scott Buck, draw your conclusions."

But don't take this as a confirmation about the spinoff series. Nevins later clarified what he meant by his previous statement, saying, "there is nothing actually happening" in regards to the spinoff or casting options.

"All options will be explored," he explained. "We're really not dealing with it at all until we're through this season and maybe a while thereafter." He later added to confusion with, "I don't know that there will ever be a spinoff. It could well never happen."

Back in April, Nevins told The Hollywood Reporter that, "This is a core franchise to us and all options are on the table as to where it could go after this ... We need to get through this season and see how the dust settles and then see where we go from there."

Some have speculated about a "Dexter" spinoff starring Jennifer Carpenter for months. But if that news were to break, it would spoil the ending of season 8 considering Deb would have to survive for her new show.
