Buffy The Vampire Slayer Movie: Sarah Michelle Gellar Says Buffy Reunion Possible With ‘The Right Story’

Fans have clamored for a Buffy The Vampire Slayer reunion, whether as a movie or on television, since the show ended after seven seasons in 2003. Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, recently addressed that possibility and left the door cracked open ever so slightly for it to happen.

Gellar spoke to E! to promote her new CBS comedy "The Crazy Ones" with Robin Williams and was asked about the possibility of a Buffy reunion. Here's what she had to say:

"Joss (Whedon) and I always talk about (a movie), But the thing with Buffy is that Buffy was a movie, and it ultimately didn't work as a film. And I mean, we had such miles to overcome when we were trying to do a TV show based on a movie. And one of the reasons is that the story works better over time."

But she did not close the door completely:

"If there was ever the right story, we would do it."

She also joked:

"At this point, the stake would be my walker and I would be hobbling in."

The difference between the 1992 Buffy The Vampire movie, which Whedon wrote, and a future project is that the cult television show would provide an established mythology and character histories. The original movie was partly comedic, whereas a Buffy reunion film would be able to draw from the show's seven seasons and appeal to the devoted fans.

Buffy actually did continue in comic book form in what would be considered "Season 8," but not all the work is considered canonical.
