'American Idol' Judges: Keith Urban Confirmed to Return to TV Competition, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Hudson in Contact Limbo for Season 13
The fate of judges on the hit FOX reality competition "American Idol" has been up in the air since Candice Glover won season 12 last May. Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were all slated not to return as judges for the show, but the fate of country star Keith Urban was up in the air.
Today (Aug. 1), The Hollywood Reporter reported that Urban, will, in fact return to the judge's seat for season 13. "Keith is going to return to the show. The fans really liked him. Keith is a really funny guy," said FOX entertainment chief Kevin Reilly.
Rumors had been swirling that Urban would be the lone judge to return from last season, and now it seems to be all but confirmed. Urban has yet to comment on his return to "Idol."
There has been a lot of speculation about who exactly the season 13 judges will be. Jennifer Lopez, a judge for seasons 10 and 11 with winners Scotty McCreery and Phillip Phillips, has been rumored to return to the show. "American Idol" alums Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert have also had their names thrown in to the ring.
According to Yahoo!, Hudson had reached a deal with producers but has yet to sign an official contract. Rumors have it that if Lopez is in, Hudson is out.
Ryan Seacrest, the host of the TV show since its inception in 2002 will return to the reality competition for its 13th incarnation. He is the lone mainstay of the show. Judge Randy Jackson just left "Idol" after 12 cycles.
