Megan Welter, Arizona Cardinals Cheerleader, Charged With Assault: Cell Phone, Police Video [WATCH] 911 Call, Iraq War Veteran Beat Boyfriend Ryan McMahon?
Megan Welter, a celebrated Iraq war veteran and Arizona Cardinals cheerleader has been charged with assault. Welter, who went viral this past week after her story of choosing to go into the military and fight over in Iraq before becoming an NFL cheerleader made news, was arrested on July 20 and charged with disorderly conduct, alleged assault and criminal damage according to FOX 10 in Phoenix. The 29-year-old war veteran reportedly got into a fight with her boyfriend Ryan McMahon after coming home from the bar to celebrate her 29th birthday. Now, there is a lot more revealing information about the altercation coming out, including video of the incident taken by McMahon and the 911 call to police.
According to Yahoo! Shine, Welter called 911 and the Scottsdale police around 3am on July 20th saying, "My boyfriend became abusive...He smashed my head into tile." You can listen to the 911 call from Right This Minute here.
However, McMahon took video of Welter screaming at him asking, "Who is she?" The video is hard to see as it was reportedly taken on his cell phone, but going by the cell phone video it looks like Welter was the aggressor. You can watch the cell phone video here.
Right This Minute also has police video of the arrest where McMahon explains, ""She found a text message from another girl and she started kicking the s*** out of me." You can watch the police video of McMahon explaining what happened here.
According to Yahoo! Shine, police then arrested Welter, who was later released on a citation and given a court date. Police said there were no signs that Welter was assaulted. McMahon didn't want to talk to KTVK, but released a statement reading:
"People make mistakes, no one is perfect. I honestly want the best for her and I hope that this doesn't take away from the good things that she has done for both the NFL, as well as the service to our country. People seem to only remember the bad and it is easy to point fingers while standing on the outside. Now with that said, violence is never the answer and I honestly hope that this can be a learning experience for her and everyone else."
According to a report from Heavy.com, Welter had also recently gotten an abortion without McMahon's consent and the two were having an argument over that as well. This has not been widely reported and there is no confirmation that this is true, so take it with a grain of salt.
