Stephen Colbert Slams Pitchfork, 'Daft Punk'd' Publicity Stunt [VIDEO]: Music Blog Claims Robin Thicke & VMA News Staged, Host Responds on 'Report'

By now we all know that Daft Punk did not show up to perform on "The Colbert Report" earlier this week due to contractual obligation with the MTV Video Music Awards. Host Stephen Colbert turned his shows into an exciting special featuring Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and a star-studded episode. It was all funny and Robin Thicke even showed up to perform "Blurred Lines," the other summer hit of 2013! Sounds good, right? Well music blog Pitchfork decided that this was all a little too convenient, stating it was a big publicity stunt that Colbert was in on from the start.

Here is an excerpt from Pitchfork's article on the Colbert/Viacom story:

"This could mean that Thicke's performance was part of an elaborate ruse and that the band never intended to perform on 'The Colbert Report' in the first place. Perhaps it was a cross-promotional method of advertising Daft Punk's appearance on the VMAs. It could also mean that Thicke was taped as a safeguard in case the band fell through."

Well, Colbert did not like this analysis of the situation. He responded to this article last night on his show.

Mstars previously reported on the Daft Punk, Viacom and "Colbert Report" drama from earlier in the week. Here is an excerpt:

"Here's the story: it's a true story. We booked click and clack over here about a month ago. This network is owned by Viacom, which is also the owner of MTV... Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards. Don't tell anyone, because fun fact: no one told me until two hours ago," Colbert explained at the top of the show.

Because he had to deliver the Daft Punk hit "Get Lucky" regardless, Colbert danced along to the song with a variety of former guests and celebrity friends, including Ashton Kutcher, Hugh Laurie, Henry Kissinger, the cast of "Breaking Bad" and Matt Damon. Of course, Colbert also strutted his stuff with "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon, clearing up last week's mysterious cameo once and for all.

Apparently, as a part of his contract with Hyundai, Colbert had to deliver some song of the summer on his TV show. Who else was there to save him except "Blurred Lines" singer Robin Thicke, who gave a stellar performance of his No. 1 hit single to conclude the bizarre show.
