Where Trinidad James' Don't Be S.A.F.E. mixtape was composed of a single ratcheted up summer anthem ("All Good Everything") and a gaggle surprisingly good, chill raps that acted as a counterbalance, James' latest 10 Pc. Mild tries to cash in on "All Gold"'s success with a handful of aggressive raps that don't quite work, a few solid songs and a bunch of confusing PBR&B exercises.

The first real song on 10 Pc. Mild "Material Thing$ Hard To Deal With" cops the "Popped a molly I'm sweating" melody and rides it for over four minutes. It's a countin' riches slog that never really lives up to it's title. While we're on the subject of titles, the next song "Shut Up!!!" is a high-energy Travis Scott banger that earns it's three exclamation points.

"Quez" is a forgettable, f**ked up club track that is barely redeemed by its Danny Brown feature and "Hip$ter Strip Club" answers the question none of us were asking: "What would happen if Trinidad James made a lukewarm Weeknd song?"

"Homegirl$" slows James plodding delivery down to a crawl but is notable for the literal "Ohhhhh" that came out of my mouth after the line "You lookin' for your b**ch? My d**k says you just missed her."

"Jumpin' Off Texa$" is an arena-ready jam about stagediving and seeing Young Chop's signature hard-hitting drill beats twisted to support synth stabs that could back up Van Halen in 1983.

The less said about "Bino$ vs Bree$," an unfortunate skit about an abusive relationship that ends with the woman of the duo screwing the neighbor so that he'll clean their filthy house, the better.

Trinidad James does remind us why we liked him in the first place with the last too songs "Ro$enberg$" and "Ea$tside." The former is the first time that James is highlighted and doesn't sound asleep or let the beat do his work for him. He carries the track on charisma and positivity alone and it's great.

"Ea$tside" is hands-down the greatest song on 10 Pc. Mild. It sounds like late '90s Memphis Gothic fight rap filtered through the lens of the resulting nationwide crunk it inspired. The song could be summed up with the refrain of "You don't like me n**ga? Then fight," but that would be a disservice to the excellent verses turned in by Gucci Mane and Childish Gambino, with the latter closing out the album with one of his best verses since Camp.

Ultimately, 10 Pc. Mild offers flashes of the Trinidad James that impressed us last summer, but falls flat a lot more often than it soars. However, tracks like "Jumping Off Texa$", "Ro$enberg$" and "Eas$tside" justify the whole tape.
