Grand Theft Auto 5: Rockstar Games Reveals 'Grand Theft Auto Online' Details in GTA 5, [VIDEO]

On Thursday, Rockstar Games released a three-minute video and new details about "Grand Theft Auto Online" in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 5.

The mode will drop two weeks after GTA 5 releases on September 17. GTA Online will allow up to 16 players to interact in an open world (similar to the single-layer mode), work cooperatively to complete missions and even just hang out in a player's in-game apartment.

Players can also customize their online character's appearance, improve stats, buy custom vehicles and earn cash and notoriety among the criminal ranks.

But perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Thursday's reveal is that the world of GTA Online will evolve and change to the point where, possibly, other cities besides those in San Andreas could be included. (Liberty City and Vice City, perhaps?)

Rockstar North President Leslie Benzies revealed the following about GTA Online in an interview with CVG:

"We've set this up so there are no limitations. The only limitation is the size of the disc and how much memory we've got. We could, if we wanted, simulate the entire world, different countries, whatever. Whether we do that or not... But we've got a bunch of old stuff that we're toying with using."

He also said that GTA Online is "a different entity, a separate thing, and it'll grow on its own. It'll be GTA Online. It's not part of GTA 5. Obviously it's set in the GTA 5 engine, but it's going to grow and evolve into its own thing."

Players will be able to access GTA Online through the "Switch Wheel" that allows them to switch between the three main characters, Michael, Franklin and Trevor. The mode will require a code instead of a large download, according to Benzies.
