Fat Joe Prison VIDEO: Rapper Jailed For 4 Months For $3 Million Tax Evasion, Blames Accountant, Bids Farewell To Fans On Twitter
Rapper Fat Joe also-known-as, Joseph Cartagena has turned himself in to federal prison to serve four months for tax evasion.
The rapper pleaded guilty for unpaid taxes on more than $1 million of income from 2008. The IRS claimed that the New York native failed to pay taxes on a $3 million income, but only took responsibility for the $1 million tab.
In an interview with "RapFix Live" host Sway Calloway back in May, the rapper said as head of his household he takes the blame for the financial mismanagement.
The rapper said, "You gotta understand we hire guys who are supposed have Harvard degrees to take care of us," he explained. "All the time you see artists, the first thing they did to you when you caught money was introduce you to a bunch of fancy guys with bow ties who are gonna take care of your money and all that and then you always see an artist or a celebrity or somebody like that goin' down for it and these guys never go down for it."
The 42-year-old rapper may be planning on coming out with an album after his prison stint to tell the story of what truly happened and his journey from a luxury lifestyle to prison. "I'll explain the story after that so you'll get a real understanding of what happened to me," he said. "It's no excuses."
In an interview with Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club, the rapper admitted that he approached the IRS about his financial problems after finding out his mortgages and other bills weren't being paid for by his accountant. The rapper said he told the IRS and paid his late taxes with additional fees, but was still charged and sentenced to prison.
The rapper tweets farewell to his fans, "FARE WELL MY PEOPLE IM BOUT TO TAKE THAT RIDE SEE U AT DIDDYS HOUSE FOR NEW YEARS#GODWILLINGINSHALLAH"
