The location for the 2020 Olympic games announcement is coming today (Saturday, September 7). Many are waiting anxiously as 100 members of the International Olympic Committee decide which of three cities will host the 2020 Olympics. It's a huge honor that only comes once every four years and means worldwide attention, huge economic benefits, and tremendous responsibility and planning. The three cities in the running are Madrid, Tokyo, and Istanbul. Tokyo is considered the frontrunner but they have their downsides just like the other two cities. At the official presentation today when the winner will be announced Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan will represent Istanbul, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will represent Tokyo and Prince Felipe of Spain will represent Madrid.

Even though Tokyo is considered the frontrunner going into the final hours there are some concerns over the Fukushima nuclear power plant just 140 miles away from Tokyo. With security at the forefront of the Olympic games, having a nuclear power plant that, according to a CNBC report, is currently going through controversy surrounding spiking radiation levels.

Meanwhile, Istanbul is trying to become the first predominately Muslim country to host the Olympic games, which would be a landmark moment. However, the country has its own controversy after protests earlier this summer led to four deaths and over 7,000 injured.

Madrid would seem to be the safest choice of the three with a number of the locations and venues already in place. However, they too have their own warts. Madrid continues to fight through a recession with alarmingly high unemployment rates. So who will win the bid? Stay tuned as the announcement of which city will host the 2020 Olympic games comes today (Saturday, September 7).
