Niall Horan, Ellie Goulding Dating Rumors 2013 [PHOTOS & VIDEOS]: Ed Sheeran Confirms Summer Romance w/ 'Burn' Songstress, Have Since Broken Up
The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards ceremony was full of several controversial incidents, one of which involved a bit of a love triangle with Ellie Goulding, Ed Sheeran and Niall Horan. After rumors of a romance brewing between Goulding and One Direction's Horan, the two were spotted sitting together. But Ellie was also seen holding hands with Taylor Swift's "Red" tour opener, Ed Sheeran as well. Now Sheeran has finally revealed that he and Ellie had dated at the time but have since split.

Ellie originally took to her Twitter account to hush the rumors of a relationship with Ed Sheeran. The original post has since been deleted, but at the time she said:
I love that holding hands with my friends means we're an item. In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater. #whatthef*ck
Sheeran's revealing interview seemed to address Ellie's tweet:
"Normal people don't hold hands if they're just friends. It was going on. And now it's not."
Perhaps Ed didn't appreciate that tweet and asked her to delete it?
But the two might have remained on good terms. Sheeran added: "She's a really cool girl and she's very talented. She's had a number one single for three weeks in England now. It's all going well."

What do you think of Ellie's fling with Ed? Since it has stopped, do you think she'll move on to Niall? Has she already moved on to the One Direction hunk?

Though she has yet to address Ed's revealing statement, Ellie recently mentioned she was "offended" that she isn't seen as a sex symbol.
"I've never made anything like FHM. I'm very offended by that. I've never made any of those lists. So what's up with that? I've never been thought of in that way, like a sex symbol," she said.
