'Star Wars 7' News 'A New Dawn' [VIDEO]: 2015's 'Episode VII' First Rumored Title, Benedict Cumberbatch Addresses Casting Claims, Would Love to Work w/ J.J. Abrams Again
2015's Star Wars: Episode VII might have received an official title. In fact, this alleged title definitely draws great parallels to the original film A New Hope. According to sources, the next Star Wars film will be called A New Dawn, which definitely leaves the plot to the film open-ended as opposed to some of the previous titles used (Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, The Empire Strikes Back, etc.) What do you think of this title?
Though a title is a big deal, the more entertaining gossip is focused on casting. One of the bigger casting rumors surrounding Episode VII claimed that Benedict Cumberbatch would play a Sith Lord in the film. This rumor probably originated from an interview the actor did where he mentioned being interested in the new project.
"I've already asked [J.J. Abrams] if I can be a lightsaber and we're in talks - about whirring sounds and the rates for the lights and everything," Cumberbatch joked.
He added: "I was much more connected to [Star Wars] as a kid, in the way that a lot of kids are because it's immediate storytelling, very simple - a beautifully, outrageously simple narrative in a way - and a wonderful three-act melodrama, opera. And I loved them. I really, really loved those films and I always wanted to be Han Solo ... I was an out-and-out kid running around with a lightsaber wanting to fly the Millennium Falcon ..."
But then a rep for Cumberbatch denied the rumor.
"There is no truth to the rumor Benedict has been cast in Star Wars," a spokesperson for the 37-year-old actor revealed in light of the rumors. "I think the rumors are circling because JJ and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on Star Trek."
Now Cumberbatch himself has addressed the rumors:
"This is the simple truth. JJ and I have worked together before. I would love to work with him again. No offer has been made. That is that. And that is that!"
Doesn't it seem like Benedict is leaving the option of starring as a Sith Lord open, though?
