'Star Wars 7' News [VIDEOS]: Jonathan Rhys Meyers Addresses 2015's 'Episode VII' Casting Rumors, Ewan McGregor Gets Obi-Wan Kenobi Spin Off Film?
Jonathan Rhys Meyers was the first actor rumored to be cast in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII film, hitting theaters in 2015. The "Tudors" star worked with the film's director J.J. Abrams before (Mission: Impossible 3) so these claims were very plausible at the time. Since then, we haven't heard much about Rhys Meyers' role in the film, but the actor recently addressed the casting rumors in a new interview!
"Look, I've worked with J.J.," he said. "But I don't believe rumors."
This response is a bit vague, don't you think? It is definitely not a clear "yes" or "no," so maybe we shouldn't consider him out of the running just yet.
In fact, more as his interview went on, the young actor might have dropped a hint as to what kind of role he could take on in the upcoming Star Wars reboot.
"I play bad guys because I look like one," he explained with a laugh. "There's something in my physicality that's quite intense and lends me to being feral. I mean, I'd love to be this lovely relaxed guy doing rom-coms, but I just don't get those types of offers. I suppose I'm forever sort of the antihero."
Perhaps this means we'll get to see him as a Sith Lord if he in fact gets a role in the new film!
Meanwhile, Star Wars standalone spin-off films are also going to be popping up alongside the new trilogy and according to a new report they will be "origin stories." In fact, some reports are claiming that there will be a Yoda origin film as well as movies possibly focusing on Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
"The sky's the limit," said Disney chief financial officer Jay Rasulo. "There's incredible flexibility. It's an unbelievable palette to create from."
Ewan McGregor recently proclaimed his interest in an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film. Do you think that's in the cards?
