BBC Radio 1: Green Day and Muse 'Not Good Enough' to be Played On-Air
Of all of the artists being showcased on BBC Radio 1, you would not expect to hear that bands like Muse and Green Day were taken off the playlist. These two acts are arguably the more recognizable names in modern rock n' roll, no matter your opinion on their respective music. So when the stations head of music George Ergatoudis announces that these acts aren't good enough for the station, some questions arise.
When asked about Green Day's lack of presence on Radio 1 in a recent interview with Music Week, Ergatoudis responded: "The last Green Day project [Uno!, Dos! and Tre!] simply wasn't good enough."
Also, when asked the same question about Muse, he said: "Muse are approaching a crossroads - their last single was the first one not playlisted by Radio 1 in a decade. The door remains open to them but we'll have to think carefully about their next album."
Yeesh!
In the same interview, BBC Radio 1′s Music policy director Nigel Harding explained that Oasis member Noel Gallagher's music "feels more at home on Radio 2."
So what is good enough for BBC's Radio 1 if Green Day, Muse and not even Noel Gallagher can get on?
According to Radio 1's playlist page, there are plenty of other acts suited for on-air play.
Here is a list of some artists featured on the station as while this article was being written: Showtek, HAIM, Angel Haze, The Preatures, and Sub Focus.
What do you think of these comments about these groups?
