'Modern Family' Spinoff, Gil Thorpe Series After Season 5?: ABC Considering Rob Riggle Standalone Show for Phil Dunphy's Real Estate Rival

There are plenty of spinoff rumors and updates floating around now that some shows have come to an end, but what about a show that has no sign of slowing down. Modern Family just won another Emmy Award for it's fourth season and recently aired first two episodes of season five, but plans for the future are apparently in the works for a spinoff series starring Rob Riggle as his character Gil Thorpe.

Slashfilm reports:

According to Deadline's sources, the network has met with Modern Family producer 20th Century Fox TV to discuss the potential spinoff. Modern Family executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh would write the show. Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan is also expected to be involved, while the show's other co-creator, Christopher Lloyd, is likely to stick to the original series.

Riggle appeared in two episodes of the show last season as Thorpe, a successful real estate agent and Phil Dunphy's chief professional rival. He has a brash personality, in typical Rob Riggle fashion, as well as a habit of making puns of his own name (e.g., "Thorpedoed," "Gil Pickles). At one point last season, he hired Phil's wife Claire to work for him.

There reportedly isn't any concepts or plot ideas for this Thorpe spinoff, but it is definitely in discussion according to Deadline.

Are you excited about this news and to see a Gil Thorpe spinoff? Are you a fan of the character? Are there any other characters you'd like to see in a spinoff?
