'Royals' Singer Lorde Makes American TV Debut on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon': WATCH Her Perform 'Pure Heroine' Tracks 'Royals,' 'White Teeth Teens' [VIDEOS]
Last night, New Zealand singer Lorde made her US television debut on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon." The 16-year-old, who just released her first album "Pure Heroine" on Monday, performed her smash hit single "Royals" and another cut from her album, "White Teeth Teens."
As expected, Lorde opened with "Royals," the simplistic alternative rock hit that has crossed over to pop radio. Highlighting the song's stripped down nature and lyrics critical of excess in pop and hip-hop music, Lorde appeared in a simple white and black mini-dress and let her thick, curly hair flow.
She performed with just a keyboardist, drummer and backup singers and oozed a sense of confidence and poise way beyond her teenage years. Lorde simply swayed back and forth, eyes closed, and allowed her vocals to shine through. Seemingly not out of this decade, Lorde stunned with "Royals."
Soon, Lorde followed that single with "Pure Heroine" track "White Teeth Teens." The simplistic instrumentation and focus on Lorde's vocals that was heard in the "Royals" performance was echoed in the second performance. If "Royals" is her response to popular music, "White Teeth Teens" is her answer to the popular kids in school.

Lorde's debut on American TV isn't her first marker of success in the US. Her single, "Royals" has peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, behind musical big shots Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry. "Royals" has also topped the Alternative Songs Chart for longer than any other solo female in history. Her debut album, "Pure Heroine," came out earlier this week.
