Pusha T 'My Name Is My Name' [FULL ALBUM STREAM]
It's here. And it's just as dark as we dreamt it would be. Pusha T is avoiding a leaked album fiasco by putting My Name Is My Name on the web. The full album stream is up on Myspace.
In spite of numerous soul samples and collaborators who typically produce high-energy, uptempo cuts (2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Chris Brown, Pharrell and Jeezy), King Push reveals that he's still as serious as ever.
Hearing Rick Ross speak in measured tones is an odd feeling. As far as Ross goes, his verse on "Hold On" is practically whispering. That feeling, of superstars turning down their megawatt personas in service of Pusha's bleak vision, pervades throughout the whole album.
However, unlike Yeezus and other somber hip-hop efforts this year, Pusha still remembers that the rapping comes first. This isn't bleakness for the sake of it, or rage for the sake of art. There is meaning and method behind the former Clipse member's madness and My Name Is My Name is a true standout because of that.
My Name drops October 8.
