Lauryn Hill Tour: Ex-Fugee Gets Out Of House Arrest To Perform

By Alex Galbraith, Mstars Reporter | Oct 08, 2013 11:13 AM EDT

Lauryn Hill has decided that house arrest just isn't her style. The ex-Fugee has been busy since being released from jail, releasing new material and, apparently, planning a tour in spite of her current detained status. Even more surprisingly, a judge has decided to give Hill a pass so that she can tour this winter, effectively putting her sentence on hold. (What are "Things Only Famous Folks Can Do"?).

Lauryn -- who has a new single out -- can now start signing on at specific venues for the concerts.  But prison officials will still keep tabs on her -- she'll have to run all the details -- dates, cities, hotels -- past her probation officer.

On New Year's Day ...  the party's over, and Lauryn will have to return home to complete her home detention sentence.

While no official dates have been released, Hill asked to be free from November 15 to December 31. Look for concerts from the notoriously reclusive singer-songwriter in that time period.

Hill was booked on tax evasion charges back in May (in spite of a letter-writing campaign that included Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys) and served a three-month sentence while paying the IRS over $1M in back taxes, via a convenient deal with Sony.

She wrote a letter from jail, highlighting how different her experience was from the average prisoner (if the rest of this article didn't tip you off).

What do you think of Lauryn Hill getting out of house arrest to go on tour? Do you think it's fair that she recieve such preferential treatment? Are you just excited over the prospect of a Lauryn Hill tour?
