Lorde 'Royals' Rules Billboard Hot 100 for Second Week: Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus Fail to Dethrone 'Queen Bee' Debut Single [VIDEOS]
For the second week in a row, Lorde's debut single "Royals" crowns at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
According to Billboard, the 16-year-old New Zealander has ruled over Katy Perry's "Roar" and Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" yet again. Lorde's chart topping reign is helped from streaming On-Demand songs, where the track has gotten 2.4 million streams over the last week. "Royals" was also the top-selling single of the last week, moving 309,000 digital units. Lorde also tops the rock and alternative charts, breaking records for a solo female artist.
This comes in a big week for Lorde. Her debut album, "Pure Heroine" was released last Monday (Sept. 30) and started at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 this week, behind Justin Timberlake and Drake's latest efforts.
The rest of the Hot 100, like Lorde's reign, is familiar fare, and there are no debuts on the top of the chart this week. Spots Nos. 2 and 3 are the same as last week. Perry's "Roar" and Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" come in at those spots, respectively.
Avicii's country/EDM blend "Wake Me Up!" rebounds back to No. 4 after falling to No. 5 last week. It's the track's highest peak on the Hot 100 to date, proving the popularity of electronic music in the modern era. The Swedish musician swapped places with Toronto's Drake, whose second "Never Was The Same" single "Hold On, We're Going Home" fell to No. 5 this week.
The biggest surprise of the week is that comedic duo Ylvis' parody song "The Fox" rose to No. 6 on the Hot 100 this week, with help from YouTube streams and a rise in sales. For the last three week's Jay Z and Justin Timberlake's "Magna Carta" single "Holy Grail" held the No. 6 spot, but that track fell one spot to No. 7.
Robin Thicke's former 12-week No. 1 single "Blurred Lines" continues to fall down the chart and lands at No. 8 this week. Lady Gaga's "Applause" and Lana Del Rey and Cedric Gervais' "Summertime Sadness" round out the top 10 at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.
