Squadda B - 'I Smoke Because I Don't Care About Death 2', New Album From Bay Area Rapper Reveals Talented Producer [FULL ALBUM STREAM]
Let's get this out of the way up front. If Squadda B dreams of being a famous rapper, he probably shouldn't quit his day job. On top of a strange delivery and a voice that squeaks and cracks at inopportune times (usually when Squadda is putting on a tough mask), there's the fact that Bay Area spitter just isn't all that gifted in the lyrics department.
With that being said, Squadda B's latest *deep breath*, I Smoke Because I Don't Care About Death 2, is an absolutely fantastic mixtape (though not for the reason's Squadda was hoping for). The release was written and produced entirely by the Oakland-ite and, while he will never chart with his bars, the beats that bolster Squadda's lackluster rhymes are second-to-none.
Squadda is clearly heavily inflenced by both chillwave and hyphy, and the resulting productions are nothing short of incredible. Where chillwave can get too caught up in its own self-seriousness and hyphy can go stupid to the point of being overly asinine, the comibination put forth by Squadda B could give Toro Y Moi a run for his money, liven up the Weeknd's festering turd of an album and give E-40 another national radio hit all in one go.
That's not to say Squadda should scrap the vocals entirely and re-release the album under a new name that contains some coy reference to '30s hairstyles. If you can tune out the clunkers, several of the songs come off as genuinely enjoyable, fall-driving jams. The Dungeon Family-esque "Outro Raps" and piano exercises of "Strapped Or Die" wouldn't be out of place at a party or barbeque.
Still, there's no doubting that Squadda B has an excellent career ahead of him, if he chooses the right one.
