'Friday Night Lights' Movie Sequel Update 2013: Connie Britton Says Kyle Chandler is Holding Up Production on Film Project, 'Happy' w/ Season Finale Ending
Friday Night Lights ended its 5-season run in 2011, when the series finale brought an end to the storyline of Coach Taylor and his Texas high school football players. But the story could continue with a sequel movie, bringing us back into the lives of some of our favorite characters from the show. Unfortunately, the Coach Taylor actor, Kyle Chandler, feels that the series finale was the perfect good-bye for the characters, so he is hesitant to make the film.
Actress Connie Britton, who portrayed Taylor's wife on the show, is hopeful that the film will be made. Pretty much everyone is on board with this project except for Chandler, according to Britton.
"You know, there's been a lot of talk about a lot of things," she said while appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. "And some people are really excited about it, and other people aren't. ... I love the idea. I think it would be a great idea. But my former husband, Coach Eric Taylor..."
Cohen interjected: "He thinks you did it already."
"Well, and he has a point," Britton continued. "And we would only do it if it was going to be a great movie. That's the thing."
The news that Chandler isn't into this movie sequel idea might not be a surprise to fans. About a year ago, the actor made his feelings clear that the show ended perfectly in his mind.
"They ended it at exactly the right time, and exactly the right way as well," he said at the time. "I'm so happy [with the ending]."
Do you think Friday Night Lights will ever make it to the big screen (in terms of a sequel to the show, not the original film that the television series was based on)?
