'Ant-Man' Casting Rumors, Spoilers 2013 [PHOTO]: Edgar Wright Wants Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Paul Rudd for Hank Pym Role in New Marvel Movie
Edgar Wright's upcoming film adaptation of Marvel's Ant-Man has been slated for a summer of 2015 release and this week a lead actor shortlist has been released. According to Variety, Wright wants either Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Paul Rudd for the leading role of Dr. Hank Pym, the man who becomes "Ant-Man." This movie is one of the more exciting ventures for Marvel considering the director's past projects (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, etc.) and this casting shortlist will definitely add to the anticipation of the project.
A third name could be added to this list soon, but as of this week it looks like we could be seeing one of these talented stars suit up in the newest Marvel movie franchise.
The main differences between these two actors are their age and their physical abilities. Gordon-Levitt is 32 years old while Rudd is 44 years old. Otherwise, these Hollywood stars are pretty similar. They are both known for comedic roles, with Rudd maybe in the lead in that category, and have also been able to lead a movie.
Rudd is clearly a bigger name just because he's been around longer, but Gordon-Levitt has been getting a seemingly endless amount of role offers these days. Some people even wanted him to be the new Batman after Christian Bale left the franchise.
Having Joseph Gordon-Levitt in this role could easily attract a ton of younger fans to the Marvel world, plus he's a seasoned performer at only 32 years of age. He bulked up for his most recent movie, Don Jon, so maybe he can do it again for this super hero role?
If Rudd takes on this role, Marvel could easily have another Robert Downey Jr. situation on their hands, meaning a strong, older actor being able to lead a franchise as well as spinoff films. Downey did wonders with the Iron Man films, and he and Rudd have a similar sense of humor. It could definitely work.
Who would you like to see in this role? Right now, Marvel has set up meetings with both actors, so expect some updates soon!
