Katy Perry 'Unconditionally' Lyric Video: 'Roar' Follow Up Receives Black and White, Emotional Visual Ahead of 'Prism' Release [WATCH]
Katy Perry loves lyric videos unconditionally. Following her smash, No. 1 hit "Roar" and preceding the release of her third studio album "Prism," Perry has released a lyric video for "Unconditionally."
In a stark contrast to the kitschy, iPhone and emoji themed "Roar" lyric video or anything from the Teenage Dream era, "Unconditionally" takes on a serious tone. Shot exclusively in black and white, two models, Janell Shirtcliff and Erika Linder, are featured emotionally reacting to the music and lyrics. Shirtcliff lip syncs the song with unbridled passion while Lander reacts to the music with uncertainty and even some slight pain.
Perry herself is enthusiastic about both the song and video. In an interview with MTV earlier this year, she teased that "Unconditionally," a pure love song, was her favorite track from "Prism." "It's a love song and it's different from 'Roar' -- it's not very eighth-notey. And, I think it's a universal love song that everyone's doing to be able to relate to, no matter what age, no matter male of female. It's my favorite song off the record," she said.
As for the lyric video, today (Oct. 19), Perry tweeted, "The #UNCONDITIONALLY lyric video is starring Janell Shirtcliff & Erika Linder. Directed by Aya Tanimura! Love these ladies!!"
