'Sherlock' Season 3, 2014: Benedict Cumberbatch & Martin Freeman return as Holmes & Watson in January. Plus new episode titles revealed!
Big news breaking this week for fans of Sherlock: the third season of the critically acclaimed modern retelling of the Arthur Conan Doyle characters will air in January 2014. This announcement puts an end to reports of delays due to the stars' schedules. Now we know that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have enough time to work on the hit series and finally let fans know what happened the Holmes at the end of last season! (SPOILERS to follow)
According to PBS Masterpiece producer Rebecca Eaton, the show was definitely held up by the conflicting schedules, but will be ready to go come January.
"The first holdup was the boys, of course, and getting all of them together - not just Benedict and Martin but also [creators] Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss," she explained. "They had to break up the production to accommodate all the movies they wanted to make."
"This is about as quickly as we could have possibly got them on the air once they were made," Eaton said
Clearly we know that Sherlock (Cumberbatch) has survived his fall from the rooftop, but we would all love to know just how he did it. So it looks like we'll find out with three new episodes in January.
This season three news affects the United States, with no airdate announced for the United Kingdom. Though we should assume the UK will be seeing these episodes before the US.
Here are the titled for the upcoming third season:
"The Empty House"
"The Sign of Three"
"The Last Vow"
