White Denim 'Corsicana Lemonade' Review: New Album From Garage Rockers Hits All The Familiar Notes [FULL ALBUM STREAM]
There isn't a whole lot that's new on White Denim's new album Corsicana Lemonade, but there is a whole lot to love.
The aging Austin garage rockers stick to the basics on thier fifth studio album: chugging guitars, shuffling drums and vocals that do their best to soar but never really leave the sludge of the mix. The result is an album that sounds like a cold beer on a front porch, familiar but no less enjoyable for it.
Listeners will hear touches of The Allman Brothers' "Jessica", the Marshall Tucker Band's "Rambiln'" and The White Stripes "Hotel Yorba" all over Corsicana's svelt 38-plus minute runtime. The album ambles through celebratory genre exercises that will have listeners dutifully tapping along.
Corsicana is also beautifully paced. Around the point that White Denim's southern-fried, Budweiser rock revivalism might get a bit trying, lead single "Pretty Green" comes in like a shot of whiskey: a stiff kick in the ass that keeps you riding along with the Texas four-piece until the last notes of excellent album closer "A Place To Start" ring out.
