Chirag Shah Proposes to Simone Jhingoor on 'Today' in Awkward, Cringe-worthy Way: Non-Profit Worker Thought She Was Promoting Charity [VIDEO]
It may be some girls' dreams to get proposed to on live television, but that doesn't necessarily seem like the case for New York City resident and non-profit worker Simone Jhingoor. On Today this morning (Oct. 24), Jhingoor's boyfriend Chirah Shah took over her interview with Al Roker to get down on one knee and pop the big question.
Jhingoor was in the middle of talking about her non-profit, the Women's Housing and Economic Development Corporation, when Shah appeared. Roker asked her who he was and she said "my partner." In a moment planned by everyone except Jhingoor, Roker asked Shah why he was at Rockefeller Plaza this morning. "The real question is, why is Simone here? Simone, you're actually not here to talk about the amazing work that you do. I'm sorry," Shah said rather non-apologetically.
From there, he went into a spiel about how his New York dreams led him to Jhingoor and that he was at "Today" to propose to her.
The lady of the moment seemed surprised, though not too particularly thrilled at the engagement, which obviously stole the spotlight from her non-profit work. In the end, she said the word Shah was hoping to hear, "Yes," although there was a VERY awkward pause.
Post-proposal, Jhingoor seemed shocked, the couple shared a brief hug and Roker described the moment as "beautiful," though it was actually more cringe-worthy. "I thought I was here to talk about my non-profit and giving back to the community," she exclaimed. Not today on "Today," honey.
