Will Smith is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable actors in Hollywood whose movies (mostly) turn to gold, and the actor could soon star in two more major motion pictures.

First, director Roland Emmerich let slip in an interview with IndieWire that he currently has two scripts for Independence Day 2, one based on Smith's return to the franchise and one based on his absence. Smith's involvement in the sequel has long been the subject of debate and speculation, and it seems now that Emmerich and his team are preparing for both possibilities. But the director maintained some optimism and said "it's looking good" with regard to Smith's return.

Smith's starring role in the original Independence Day in 1996 was a massive blockbuster success that catapulted the actor into superstardom. His character's son has been rumored as the main character of the sequel, and some reports have Michael B. Jordan (Friday Night Lights, Fruitvale Station) in that role.

Independence Day 2 is scheduled for release on July 3, 2015.

In other news, The Wrap has attached Smith's name to the upcoming supernatural thriller Selling Time by 20th Century Fox, according to several people involved with the project. The site also reports that "several A-list filmmakers are now circling the movie," but no official decision has yet been made.

The plot of the film involves a man who gives up seven years of his life for a chance to go back in time and relive the worst day of his life in an effort to change it.
