Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz, Milla Jovavich eyed for female 'Exbendables' movie cast entitled 'ExbendaBelles'
In what will go down as either the best or worst idea for a movie based on another successful movie franchise with a cast of the opposite sex, The Expendables filmmaker Avi Lerner is eying some big names for a new project: The ExpendaBelles. As you might have guessed, this would be the all female version of The Expendables, a film focused on aging acting stars getting back into the mix. Lerner is reportedly trying to sign deals with Milla Jovavich, Cameron Diaz and Meryl Streep.
Let's evaluate these three actresses and their appropriateness for this film!
Jovavich would definitely work in this type of film. Her Resident Evil franchise can attest to that.
Diaz could work considering her roles in the Charlie's Angels movies. She is also a huge name in the movie industry so that doesn't hurt.
Meryl Streep is the name that sticks out on this project. Perhaps the most sought after performer in the industry, male or female, Streep has not done "action" movies. Deadline broke this news stating that each actress had success in the genre and listed Steep's film The River Wild as her example of an action movie. If you've seen The River Wild you might be scratching your head by now (it's more of a thriller with some whitewater rafting involved).
That said, Streep would probably still kill it in this film. She's just too good!
The project sounds interesting at least, so maybe with the help of a good cast and writer it can become a separate entity from The Expendables. Lerner is also reportedly looking for a female director for this project.
