CBS's hit show How I Met Your Mother is calling it quits in its current ninth season, but the network is still hoping to capitalize on the show after the finale airs. Though HIMYM will live on in syndication, a new series may be developed out of it. CBS is considering a spinoff series with a current working title of How I Met Your Father.

Clearly, this spinoff series will focus on a female lead to take the place of Ted in the search for her future husband. A whole cast of characters to replace Barney, Robin, Marshall and Lilly will also be included, thus turning the show into a remake in a way.

This spinoff cast would reportedly be introduced in the final episodes of How I Met Your Mother, when Ted actually meets the mother!

Deadline reports:

Referred to as How I Met Your Father, the spinoff hails from HIMYM creators/executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and Up All Night creator/exec producer Emily Spivey. It would feature a new group of New York friends and chronicle a female member of the group's quest to meet her future husband. I hear the new characters could be introduced in the HIMYM series finale, and Ted, Barney, Marshall, Lily, and Robin's favorite hangout, MacLaren's Pub, may be featured on the new show.

What do you think of this spinoff possibility? It is definitely a smart move on CBS's part to basically just hit the restart button on one of its most successful shows. Are you excited for How I Met Your Mother?
