'Star Wars 7' News: '12 Years a Slave' star Chiwetel Ejiofor cast in J.J. Abrams' 2015 blockbuster 'Episode VII' opposite Harrison Ford? [RUMORS]
Chiwetel Ejiofor is an easy Oscar contender thanks to his powerful performance in this year's 12 Years a Slave, so it might not come as a surprise that the actor was spotted waiting to meet with director J.J. Abrams at the Bad Robot offices. Thanks to the well-timed unrelated meeting with Britain's The Times reporter Rhys Blakely, we have an eyewitness placing Ejiofor in the waiting room of Abrams' offices. Does this mean that the rising star was meeting with the director about the current Star Wars: Episode VII production?
"The British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, front-runner in this year's Oscar race, is sitting in the lobby of J.J. Abrams' office," Blakely revealed in The Times. "If you're a sci-fi fan, this might be very big news indeed."
The reporter explained why he was able to walk in on such a spoiler of a situation.
"I'm here to talk with Abrams about a side project - a book, called S., of which more later. But, really, if we're honest, there's only one thing any showbiz hack wants to know from J.J. right now: the skinny on Star Wars Episode VII, which he's going to direct," Blakely explained.
But then the reporter goes on to create the rumor and described what Abrams said when he was questioned about Ejiofor,
"He looks at me, dead-eyed. 'I can't discuss casting,' he says. 'But he's a very talented gentleman.'"
Clearly this is not a confirmation, but the buzzing actor is definitely in demand so Abrams is smart to at least be meeting with him. Besides Episode VII, Abrams could have also met with Ejiofor about his other upcoming projects: Mission: Impossible 5 and Star Trek 3.
Clearly any of these projects would benefit from having Chiwetel involved, but having him confirmed for Star Wars would be great news for the momentum of the film's progress.
