'Pet Sematary' Movie Remake: Iconic horror film reboot gets new director, '28 Weeks Later' filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo

Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is no stranger to the horror genre. His 2007 film, 28 Weeks Later, was a successful sequel to Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, and his movie Intruders brought A-lister Clive Owen into the genre. So when new reports of Fresnadillo directing the remake of the film adaptation of Stephen King's Pet Sematary, people have already been getting plenty excited for the results.

We shouldn't jump to any conclusions, though, because the director has been tied to plenty of film projects (most of which were remakes and reboots) that didn't get off the ground and are either scrapped or in movie making limbo. Fresnadillo was one of the directors brought in for the reboot of The Crow, but that project is not going anywhere soon. Also, he was linked to a Highlander remake, but he dropped out of that. That said, we could be reporting on his leaving the Pet Sematary remake in a few months but for now we should consider him still on board.

Here is a brief synopsis of Pet Sematary thanks to Cinemablend:

Based on the chilling novel by Stephen King - who actually adapted the famous 1989 feature himself - the film centers on the young Creed family, a clan living up in Maine (of course). Tragedy strikes when the youngest member of the family, the toddler Gage, is run over by a semi - but that's only the start of the horror. Gage's father, Louis, is unable to contain the grief he feels about his lost son, and despite warnings from his neighbor he buries his child in a cursed graveyard that brings the dead back to life. But as his neighbor tells him, sometimes dead is better.
