Glee Spinoff Starring Lea Michele Reportedly In The Works
Glee creator Ryan Murphy is reportedly planning a spinoff to the hit Fox musical series that would star Lea Michele and her character, Rachel Berry.
Radar Online posted an exclusive report Tuesday morning with an inside source that says "this will be announced soon" and "this is definitely happening."
"They're make the deals now and it also presents a viable exit plan for the main Glee series itself in that some of its core cast would also migrate to the Lea Michele project as Glee is showing signs of aging," according to the insider.
If true, this would align well with what Ryan Murphy has said in the past about the uncertain future of the show. The death of Cory Monteith earlier this year threw the entire show into chaos because Murphy's endgame heavily involved Rachel and Finn. Monteith's passing forced Murphy and the writers to figure out where to take the show in Season 5 and beyond. Conflicting reports then emerged that Glee would end after Season 6.
A spinoff could be the best way for Murphy to hit the reset button and give Rachel (and Lea Michele, by extension) a fresh start. Other reports indicated that the creators were considering moving the show entirely to New York City, where Rachel currently resides, rather than continue to split time between The Big Apple and McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio. Another idea was to movie Kurt, the show's most notable homosexual character, to Russia, where a recent piece of legislation unfavorable to homosexuals has generated some controversy.
