Could 'Better Call Saul' Actually Be A 'Breaking Bad' Sequel Instead of Prequel? [SPOILERS]

The news of a Breaking Bad spinoff entitled Better Call Saul has been well documented in recent weeks, as is the fact that the show would serve as a prequel to Vince Gilligan's original masterpiece. But could the new show actually serve as a sequel instead of (or even in addition to) a prequel?

IGN raised that exact question to Saul Goodman's portrayer, Bob Odenkirk, in a recent interview. Saul disappears to a new life in Omaha in the penultimate episode of Breaking Bad, so a sequel would allow viewers to check in on what he is up to in Nebraska. And Odenkirk, Gilligan and Peter Gould have talked about multiple prequel and sequel scenarios:

"Well, I've talked to Vince (Gilligan) and Peter (Gould), who are writing and creating the series, about this and I've said that a lot of people do want to see what happens to next to Saul. So, I don't know what they're going to do. I know they've talked about prequel, but they've also talked to me about sequel, and they've also talked to me about a mix of prequel and sequel."

Fans know from Breaking Bad that Saul Goodman is not even the character's real name. He claims to be Irish at one point but crafted the Saul persona much like Walter White created Heisenberg. So hopefully Better Call Saul will show all the shady details of Saul's (or whatever his real name is) past. And if we learn that Saul is, in fact, managing a Cinnabon in Omaha, then that's just gravy.
