The National release gorgeous new song 'Lean' for 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' soundtrack ahead of Nov. 19 release date [LISTEN]
Music from the new movie The Hunger Games: Catching Fire just keeps rolling out. Tracks from Coldplay and Christina Aguilera have already gotten their debuts. Now, another new track from the highly anticipated film has been released: the somber "Lean" from indie rock band The National.
The heartbreaking track features the signature croon of National lead singer Matt Berninger, which (as usual) adds to the emotion of the song. Seeming taking inspiration from the romantic troubles in the book regarding Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen, the tributes from District 12 and winners of the 74th Hunger Games, as well as the incoming civil war, Beninger laments that everybody needs a friend when the world is about to end.
"I can see a fever's on the rise / I can see the waters in your eyes / I can see the way the water leads / Love will lead us all to smithereens / Dying is easy / Now I believe my love, my love relieves me," he sings in the gorgeous, slow crawling chorus.
Listen to "Lean" by The National from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire below.
The National is just one of several major music players to appear on the Catching Fire soundtrack. Lorde, Ellie Goulding and Imagine Dragons will also contribute songs to the soundtrack, in addition to the previously mentioned Coldplay and Aguilera and a slew of other artists.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack will hit stores on Nov. 19. The movie will follow, being released to theaters on Nov. 22.
