Lionsgate CEO Teases 'Hunger Games' Theme Park Attraction

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer held a conference call with analysts Friday morning and revealed the interesting news that the company is considering a Hunger Games theme park attraction.

Feltheimer said Lionsgate has been "approached in two territories about potential theme park opportunities" for the action movie franchise based on the series of young adult novels, according to Deadline. "We're pursuing them," he added.

The CEO did not go into further detail, but the most likely destinations would be Disney World in Orlando, Disney Land in California or one of the Six Flags parks. Now for the fun part: what would a Hunger Games attraction entail? Our guess would be a virtual reality ride similar to the Harry Potter or Spider-Man attractions, only the Hunger Games theme would take you through the arena with arrows and other weapons flying around the place. Or maybe the park of choice could create an entire Hunger Games section, similar to the Harry Potter-themed area of Universal Studios.

The Hunger Games is one of, if not the, biggest properties Lionsgate has in its arsenal. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the sequel film Catching Fire continues to generate a massive amount of buzz and interest and "could easily cross the $175 million mark" in its three-day opening. If it does, then it would surpass Iron Man 3, which opened earlier this year to $174.1 million, for the second-highest three-day opening ever behind The Avengers, which hauled in $207.4 million in 2012.

Lionsgate, the company behind the film, is projecting a much more conservative estimate between $140 million and $150 million.
