The Voice allows fans to have final say on Twitter

Fans of NBC's The Voice not only vote to move their favorite contestants on in the competition each week, but now after the 12 finalists perform this coming Monday, they will be able to additionally tweet during Tuesday's results show to save one of the bottom three vocalists.

How the "Instant Save" will work is that during the results show, viewers will have a five-minute window in which they can tweet using #VoiceSave in addition to the name of the singer they want to stick around. Because of varying time zones, fans can keep tabs on @nbcthevoice to make sure they know who is on the bottom and when Twitter voting will start.

With this new additional interactive aspect to the show, The Voice judges Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton might have added incentive to call attention to who they think deserves to stay in the competition.

"It's a huge innovation," said head of TV for Twitter Fred Graver to USA Today, "Nobody has ever handed the reins over to the audience before and said, 'You get the choice, you have the power.'" Twitter will collect the tweets and determine the results as the show is on the air.

This season, the judges had an additional save during the knockout rounds, which allowed a couple of them to take back contestants they had just recently let go and handed over to a different coach. Looks like second chances are a prominent theme for this season, and the contestants who reap the benefits will now have the fans to thank directly.

The season finale of The Voice will take place on Dec. 17. Will you be watching?
