Marvel's original Netflix 'Daredevil' exclusive series gets 'Cabin in the Woods' director Drew Goddard as writer for 'Defenders' project
Just last week, Disney announced that it would be bringing 4 characters from the Marvel universe to Netflix for new original shows. These 13-episode shows would eventually lead to other projects like an Avengers-like group project entitled The Defenders. That said, the first name to be attached to this stage of Marvel's progression is Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard. He is set to write on of the Netflix shows, Daredevil!
Goddard might not be a household name, but he is quickly becoming the next Joss Whedon (who he has worked with on numerous occasions). Some of Goddard's past projects besides Cabin in the Woods include rewriting World War Z, writing J.J. Abrams' Cloverfield, and working on Buffy, Alias, Lost and Angel. Having him involved with Marvel is a great move for the comic studio.
Goddard has previously opened up about working on Marvel projects and shared his excitement at the idea.
"What Marvel character would I not love to get on? That's an easier question to answer," he said. "I would love any of it and I love Marvel, Joss and what they're doing. It's all about finding the right fit. Directing...in order to do your job right, you have to find ways to make it personal, and if we can find the right fit, then I would love to do it."
Then a new interview came out this week with him discussing his love of Daredevil, thus proving he's the right guy for this job.
"You're talking to a guy who had quotes from Daredevil painted on his wall while growing up," he revealed. "Even when I was 18, I still had the blood red door with the, 'I have shown him that a man without hope is a man without fear.' That was what I loved and so it's the sort of thing that if we can find the right project, I would love to do it."
