It seems as though new music from U2 is well on the horizon. The legendary rockers are reportedly preparing a new release for April 2014, with a Super Bowl commercial in the works to make the official announcement.

According to Billboard, the "Beautiful Day" band have been shopping around for a brand partner to announce their new album on Feb. 2, 2014, during the Super Bowl.

Though it may seem bizarre to announce a big return to music during a sporting event, U2's planned announcement would not be without precedent. In June of this year, rap veteran Jay Z announced his twelfth studio album Magna Carta Holy Grail during the fifth game of the NBA Finals. Jay Z partnered up with Samsung not just for that single announcement, but for the rest of the promotion of the album, which was eventually released on July 4.

As for U2, the new album would be a big return to the musical forefront. The April 2014 release would be the band's first new studio album since 2009's No Line on the Horizon, which spawned such singles as "Get On Your Boots," "Magnificent" and "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight."

However, the new album would not be the first new music from U2 in years. Earlier this year, the band debuted "Ordinary Love," an upbeat ballad, in the trailer for the upcoming Nelson Mandela biopic Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.
